In-house podcasting for beginners

Using your members and supporters to create great podcast content

Podcasts are fast becoming a go-to format for reaching members, sharing knowledge, and strengthening community engagement. But for many associations, producing a podcast in-house can feel out of reach; especially with limited time, budget, or experience. This seminar will explore how to launch and grow a successful association podcast using the voices and expertise of your own members.

Rosie O’Carroll, Head of Strategic Communications at the British Thoracic Society (BTS), will share through this practical case study how her small team launched the Respiratory Futures Podcast in 2024. Featuring BTS members in conversation about respiratory healthcare, the podcast is now downloaded over 7500 times and continues to build a loyal audience. The monthly podcast was set up from scratch and is recorded, edited, and promoted by the Society’s two-person Communications team

Rosie will walk through the process of getting started and reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what they’d do differently next time.

Key topics covered:

  • How BTS set up and launched its podcast in-house with a two-person team
  • Technical tools and workflows for recording and editing
  • Time and budget considerations for small teams
  • Sourcing guests and hosts from your membership
  • Strategies for promotion and audience growth
  • Practical lessons learned from the first year of production
