Dr. med Viktor Jörgens became responsible for the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in 1987 when the Annual EASD Meeting was attended by only 1700 participants. Today this conference is with 18,000 participants the largest international Meeting on diabetes research in the world.  Dr. Jörgens served as well as Executive Director of the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) which was created by EASD to strengthen diabetes research in Europe. EFSD committed until now nearly 100 million Euro to top level diabetes research projects.
