Society of Professional Economists Launches New CPD Programme

After a strategic review, the SPE council has decided to offer a new professional development programme to economist members.

The Society of Professional Economists has announced the launch of a new Professional Development programme for its members, following a review by the council of what the society offers those working across economics in the UK.

The decision to introduce structured professional development reflects a broader effort by the SPE to expand its service offering and respond to what members need from the society. The programme represents the most significant addition to member services in recent years for the organisation, which brings together economists working in business, government, research and academia.

The SPE organises a range of events for its membership, including the annual SPE Annual Dinner and speaker series. Recent speaker events have included post-Spring Statement briefings and roundtable discussions co-hosted with partners, including the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum. The new professional development programme is set to complement these existing activities by giving members a more structured route to advance their skills and knowledge.

Full details on the programme's content and format are being developed for release ahead of its formal launch later in 2026.
