Rabat to host third International Chemistry Forum focusing on energy transition and strategic projects
The Moroccan capital, Rabat, is set to host the third edition of the International Chemistry Forum on 21 and 22 May, an event organised by the Federation of Chemistry and Semi-Chemistry. This year’s forum is themed “Chemistry at the Heart of Energy Transition and Strategic Projects,” underscoring the strategic role of the chemical industry in driving energy and industrial transformations both nationally and internationally.
According to a statement issued by the federation, the 2024 forum is being held in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, alongside the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE). The event aims to highlight the pivotal contributions of the chemical sector to Morocco’s ambitious national projects, particularly in the context of accelerating sustainable development, decarbonisation efforts, and industrial reshoring.
The forum is convening at a pivotal moment when the country is intensifying its focus on key strategic initiatives such as the production of green hydrogen, the development of ultra-performance batteries, valorisation of local resources, and the advancement of sustainable industrial systems. These projects position the chemical industry as a fundamental pillar in enabling Morocco’s energy transition and broader economic shifts.
The opening plenary session will feature several prominent figures representing government institutions and the business community. Over the course of two days, attendees will engage in interactive discussions, roundtable debates, and thematic workshops designed to foster collaborative dialogue. These formats are intended to facilitate the exchange of diverse perspectives and stimulate collective thinking on the major challenges and opportunities confronting the chemistry sector.
Participants will include industrial stakeholders, institutional representatives, experts, researchers, and investors, all invited to share their insights on the potential of chemical industry innovations to accelerate Morocco’s energy and industrial transformation.
The forum’s agenda is structured around plenary sessions, keynote speeches, roundtables, and focused workshops. Content will specifically address the role of chemistry in advancing ultra-performance battery ecosystems and green hydrogen production, as well as the development of sensitive and strategic materials crucial to future industries. Additional discussions will focus on chemistry’s contribution to industrial and energy sovereignty, technological innovation, applied research, and the development of human capital necessary to support the sector’s transition.
In parallel to the formal proceedings, the Chemical Village will serve as an exhibition and networking space dedicated to showcasing technological innovations and facilitating interaction among key national and international industry players. This dedicated area aims to enhance professional engagement and the promotion of cutting-edge developments within the chemistry sector.
Overall, the International Chemistry Forum in Rabat is positioned as a key gathering for stakeholders involved in Morocco’s chemical industry to explore collaborative pathways and reinforce the sector’s role in the ongoing energy transition and strategic industrial projects.
