The Board of Directors of the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) announced the appointment of Queenter Mbori as Executive Director effective 1st May 2024.

As a celebrated advocate for gender equality, Queenter brings a wealth of experience and passion to AMWIK. She is an award-winning multimedia journalist, mentor, and certified media trainer. Her expertise spans sustainable journalism, gender-sensitive storytelling, and amplifying the voices of marginalized groups.

With over 12 years in media management across Kenya, Tanzania, and Africa, Queenter has held prominent editorial positions at The Standard Group PLC, Mwananchi Communications LTD, and Bang! Magazine. She has demonstrably championed gender equality throughout her career, establishing a Gender Desk, revamping anti-sexual harassment policies, and launching innovative mentorship programs.

Queenter’s dedication extends beyond the newsroom. She sits on numerous boards, including the Kigali Declaration Advisory Committee and the African Women in Media/Luminate Women in Politics Project. She is also a founding member and current Board Chair of The Standard Group Women Network and a member of the Kenya Editors’ Guild Strategy Committee.

As an alumnus of Moi University, the prestigious WAN-IFRA WIN Leadership Accelerator Programme, and a founding member of the Woman Kenya Network (WOKN), Queenter possesses a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing women in media. Her commitment to inclusivity and empowerment perfectly aligns with AMWIK’s mission.
