Local Government Association launches 2026/27 Sector Support Programme

Government-funded offer brings new help on workforce reform and political transition.

The Local Government Association launched its 2026/27 Sector Support Programme in mid-April, expanding the support available to councils across England as the sector navigates fiscal pressure, devolution and a wave of political transitions.

The government-funded offer includes the LGA's flagship Corporate Peer Challenges, the LG Inform benchmarking service with over 12,500 metrics, and the Local Outcomes Framework. New strands of support address employment law reform and the political transition many councils are working through following recent local elections, including induction and member development for new administrations.

Sector Support is delivered under a long-standing arrangement between the LGA and central government, and remains the principal channel through which improvement support reaches councils on a sector-led basis. The 2026/27 launch confirms the programme's continuation and its broadening scope.
