IST opens creative industries registration route
The Institute of Science and Technology, the Sheffield-based professional body for technical practitioners, has opened a new professional registration route for people working in the creative industries and technologies.
Developed with Creative UK and endorsed by both organisations, the framework introduces three registration levels. They run from Registered Creative Industries and Technologies Technician at early-career level, through Registered Practitioner, to Advanced Practitioner for senior, specialist and managerial staff. The practitioner level opens first, with the others following.
The registers reach across disciplines from film and television production to games, digital technologies, museums and heritage. The aim is to give technical creative roles the same recognised professional standing already open to those in science and engineering.
This is the sort of member service peers watch closely. A professional register creates a durable membership product, a clear reason to join and a standard to maintain, and IST has extended that model into a sector that has lacked one.
