International World Games Association grants membership to chess federation

FIDE becomes IWGA's 40th member federation at the Annual General Meeting in Lausanne.

The International World Games Association admitted the International Chess Federation as its 40th member federation at its Annual General Meeting on 25 April. The meeting was held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

Members voted to approve FIDE's application following a review process. The decision strengthens the IWGA's global reach and extends the range of sports represented within the World Games movement. FIDE brings an established global structure and a substantial player community to the IWGA family.

The admission consolidates chess's profile in the wider international sports movement and gives FIDE a formal seat in the federation that organises the World Games, the multi-sport event for disciplines outside the Olympic programme.
