Institute of Product Leadership launches international AI product management certification
The Institute of Product Leadership (IPL) has introduced a new International Certificate in AI Product Management, a three-month, cohort-based programme aimed at equipping product managers, leaders, and technology professionals with practical AI skills relevant to product development. The certification, priced at $1,499 internationally, is scheduled to begin its next cohort on 1 June 2025.
Designed in collaboration with global industry practitioners, the programme addresses the increasing importance of AI competencies within product management roles. It combines three focused courses — Generative AI Product Management, Predictive AI in Products, and Agent-Driven Automation in Products — delivered through weekly live sessions, personalised coaching, and project-based learning. Notably, the course does not require participants to have prior coding or data science experience.
SaiSatish Vedam, Chief Product Officer and Program Director at IPL, highlighted the growing necessity of AI skills in product roles, stating that "AI is no longer 'nice to have' — it's a product competency. This programme equips PMs with applied AI skills that translate into real business impact."
The curriculum covers practical elements such as AI use case evaluation, model lifecycle management, agent architectures, and ethical oversight. A central feature is the Adaptive AI Product Management Competency Framework, guiding learners through six strategic capability areas, including AI value road mapping, data literacy, model familiarity, iterative deployment, agentic AI, and ethical governance. This framework aims to assist professionals in aligning technical knowledge with business strategy and ethical considerations throughout AI product initiatives.
Graduates of the programme leave with a portfolio demonstrating their applied skills and gain access to an exclusive hiring network, including monthly recruitment events. Deepa Bansi, a recent graduate of the programme, commented that prior to undertaking the courses she "struggled to connect the dots between AI and product strategy," but has since moved on to "designing agentic features and influencing roadmap decisions."
The course is delivered entirely online with a mix of live interactions, mentor check-ins, and self-paced study materials. In addition to instructional content, the programme includes career assistance services such as resume reviews, mock interviews, and job fairs to support participants in transitioning to or advancing within AI product management roles.
The IPL certification is aimed at professionals seeking to integrate AI into their product workflows through strategic insight and hands-on practice, emphasising experiential learning methods rather than purely theoretical study.
