IABM launches comprehensive AI course for media and technology professionals
The International Association for Broadcast & Media Technology Suppliers (IABM) has launched a comprehensive online Artificial Intelligence (AI) course aimed at business managers, production teams, and technology providers within the media and technology sectors. The new course is designed to offer a thorough understanding of fundamental AI concepts, various types and applications, ethical issues, and practical implementation strategies.
The course content covers a wide array of topics including definitions of AI, Generative AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Deep Learning, AI Models, Foundation Models, and neural networks. Additionally, it explains the distinctions between rule-based systems and AI, providing a historical overview of AI development from the 1950s to the present day. It also emphasises the significance of data quality and training methods, alongside discussing AI’s potential societal and employment impacts.
Further sections of the course provide guidance for integrating AI technologies into business operations, underscore the necessity for AI governance through councils and security policies, and conclude with discussions on ongoing AI training, precision, legal considerations, and emerging future trends in the field.
Saleha Williams, Chief Executive Officer at IABM, commented on the initiative, saying, “The rapid evolution of AI presents both incredible opportunities and significant complexities for our industry. At IABM, our commitment is to empower our members to not just navigate this landscape, but to lead it. This new AI course is a direct investment in their future success, providing the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this transformative era.”
The course has been produced by IABM member Damon Neale, CEO of Metadat-AI, who brings extensive practical AI experience and a professional background to the educational content. IABM members can access the course free of charge, with non-members having the option to purchase enrolment.
Stuart Ray, IABM’s Head of Skills and Development, explained the need for such training: “This new AI course is the result of many months of research across all the applications of AI in Media & Entertainment. AI is already extensively used for tasks like automation, content tagging, video editing and business intelligence – AI-generated songs, animation automation, podcasts, voice-overs, literature and video generation are just some examples. It is now critical for everyone involved in this industry to understand the basics and scope of AI and how it can be a real game-changer when harnessed effectively; our new AI course will give them the tools they need to dive in.”
Alongside launching this new course, IABM has arranged a 10% discount for its members on all AI courses offered by Future Media Concepts (FMC), a well-established provider of training for digital content professionals. Founded in 1994, FMC specialises in education and training for creative professionals involved in digital content production, editing, and delivery.
This initiative by IABM represents a strategic move to equip media industry professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage and lead in an increasingly AI-driven environment.
