ESR Launches Three New Open-Access Radiology Journals

European Society of Radiology expands its publishing portfolio with three new specialist journals open for submissions

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has launched three new peer-reviewed open-access journals, expanding its publishing portfolio to cover specialist areas of radiology that previously lacked dedicated European platforms.

The three new titles, European Radiology Abdomen, European Radiology Breast, and European Radiology Cardiovascular and Thoracic, were each created in collaboration with leading European subspecialty societies. All three are published as Gold Open Access titles by Springer, the ESR's long-standing publishing partner, and began welcoming submissions in March 2026.

European Radiology Abdomen was founded with the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) and the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR), led by Editor-in-Chief Valérie Vilgrain from Paris. European Radiology Breast was created with the European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI), led by Sophia Zackrisson from Malmö. European Radiology Cardiovascular and Thoracic was developed with the European Society of Cardiovascular Radiology (ESCR) and the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI), led by Hatem Alkadhi from Zurich.

The journals join an existing ESR portfolio comprising European Radiology, Insights into Imaging, and European Radiology Experimental, and address what the society describes as an unmet need for dedicated specialist publications across these fields. Further details are available on the ESR website.
