Dubai confirmed as host for MEADFA 2025 conference with focus on AI and non-aeronautical revenues

MEADFA will hold its 2025 conference in Dubai from 9 to 11 November, focusing on AI innovations, airport capacity expansion, and non-aeronautical revenues in duty-free.

The Middle East and Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) has confirmed that its 2025 conference will take place in Dubai from 9 to 11 November, hosted at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City. This announcement reinforces Dubai’s stature as a leading hub for the duty-free and travel retail sectors in the region. The event, once again managed by the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) and hosted by Dubai Duty Free, promises to bring together key industry players to address the evolving landscape of duty-free retail across the Middle East and Africa.

MEADFA President Abdeslam Agzoul emphasised Dubai’s magnetic appeal for the industry, describing the city as a source of inspiration that mirrors the ambition and innovation of the duty-free and travel retail market. He highlighted the conference as a vital platform for fostering collaboration and tackling the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of this vibrant sector. He also extended his gratitude to Dubai Duty Free for their partnership and enthusiasm in welcoming delegates from the region and beyond.

TFWA President Philippe Margueritte echoed this sentiment, noting the importance of uniting industry stakeholders amid global uncertainties that increasingly define the business environment. Speaking to the benefits of the conference, he called it an essential occasion for sharing insights and strategies with confidence and agility. Margueritte stressed the pivotal role the Middle East and Africa will continue to play within the global duty-free market, making this conference a unique opportunity to explore regional trends and future developments in detail.

Registration for the conference will open on 13 August, with delegates able to take advantage of a 10% early bird discount if they register by 2 September. Standard pre-registration rates apply until 20 October, ensuring ample time for industry professionals to secure their place at this influential event.

The MEADFA Conference is renowned for its comprehensive and forward-looking programme. Previous editions have attracted over 550 delegates, as seen at the 2024 conference held in Abu Dhabi, which boasted a rich networking agenda including a welcome cocktail, gala dinner, and the prestigious MEADFA Awards that celebrate excellence and innovation within the sector. The 2025 conference is expected to continue this tradition of high-level engagement, with sessions addressing key topics such as the significant role of travel and tourism in the economic growth of the Middle East and Africa. Discussions will also delve into expanding airport capacities, the growing importance of non-aeronautical revenues, and the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on duty-free retail.

MEADFA’s dedication to supporting the growth of the duty-free industry in the region is evident through its initiatives beyond the annual conference, including training programmes and resource provision aimed at elevating business potential and the sector's global standing. The 2025 event in Dubai is therefore poised to offer not only invaluable insights but also meaningful opportunities for networking and development that align with MEADFA’s ongoing mission.

Delegates attending the 2025 MEADFA Conference can also look forward to a well-organised experience, with access to networking platforms, social events such as the Opening Cocktail and Gala Dinner, and options for discounted accommodation. These features collectively enhance the value proposition of the conference, making it an essential fixture for association executives, confederations, and trade bodies active in the travel retail industry.
