Dave Hart appointed as new president of ACC Europe, signalling focus on digital innovation and strategic growth
Dave Hart has been appointed the new president of ACC Europe, the Association of Corporate Counsel’s European chapter, succeeding Maria Rocha Barros. Hart’s leadership tenure was formalised in an Extraordinary General Assembly held in September 2025, which also extended his term as a director by one year, reflecting the organisation's strong confidence in his leadership. ACC Europe represents a vital peer network for in-house counsel across the continent, fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and professional development.
Hart brings extensive experience to the presidency, having served on the ACC Europe board for over six years. Throughout this time, he has played a significant role in the association’s evolution, especially in navigating the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also helped define the long-term strategic vision 'Shift2030', which aims to keep ACC Europe relevant and indispensable to corporate lawyers over the coming decade. Currently, Hart is Director of Legal Affairs for Europe and Latin America at telecommunications giant Ericsson, having previously held legal leadership roles at BT, Barclays, and Morgan Stanley, in addition to freelance work with Allen & Overy.
In his inaugural message, Hart expressed great honour at his appointment and paid tribute to his predecessor. He said, “It is a privilege to follow in the footsteps of Maria Rocha Barros, whose energy, dedication and vision have left such a positive mark on our community.” He emphasised the spirit of collaboration that defines ACC Europe, stating, “I have seen first-hand how our members support, inspire and learn from each other: that spirit of collaboration is what makes ACC Europe so special.” Hart looks forward to working alongside the leadership team to further enhance connections among members, share innovative ideas, and drive the Shift2030 strategy.
ACC Europe has a history of strong leadership dedicated to amplifying the voice and influence of in-house counsel within the evolving European regulatory and business environment. Previous presidents like Hans Albers and Carsten Lueers focused on expanding chapter programming around legal technology, diversity, and advocacy on policy issues—an agenda that current leaders have built upon to meet the challenges of a digital era and a changing geopolitical landscape.
The leadership team supporting Dave Hart includes Vice President Jasprit Sahnsi, General Counsel at DKSH; Secretary Mark Maurice-Jones, General Counsel for UK & Ireland at Nestlé; and Treasurer Xavier Schops, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary at medmix. Together, they reflect a broad and deep commitment to representing a diverse, multinational membership across sectors and regions.
ACC Europe’s global parent organisation also underscores this diversity and international outreach in its global board, elected annually to represent jurisdictions worldwide. The association continuously fosters connections among in-house counsel worldwide to exchange legal insights and best practices beyond national borders, which further strengthens its European chapter.
As ACC Europe continues its journey under Hart’s leadership, the organisation aims to maintain its role as the essential peer-to-peer community for corporate lawyers navigating the complex legal and business environments of today and tomorrow.
