CIOL convenes 2026 Spring Mock Conference at Newcastle University

The Chartered Institute of Linguists ran its 2026 Spring Mock Conference at Newcastle University on 30 April 2026, partnering with the university's School of Modern Languages on a full-day live interpreting practicum.

Postgraduate students from the conference interpreting programme worked in simultaneous and consecutive modes across four languages, with a panel of CIOL Fellows giving structured feedback after each session. Recordings will form part of the candidate development library on the CIOL members' portal.

The format builds on the longstanding relationship between CIOL and Newcastle University, and parallels similar partnerships with the University of Bath and the Heriot-Watt University. CIOL CEO John Worne confirmed plans to extend the model to a third UK partner in autumn 2026.
