AGI prepares for inaugural Foresight Conference 2025 to shape UK geospatial future

The Association for Geographic Information launches its first Foresight Conference in London, highlighting industry insights and future opportunities in the geospatial sector.

The Association for Geographic Information (AGI), a leading membership organisation representing individuals and organisations in the geospatial sector, has announced an ambitious new event set to make a significant impact on the UK’s geospatial calendar. The inaugural AGI Foresight Conference 2025 will take place on 13 November 2025 at the prestigious Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) in London. This event marks the culmination of a comprehensive 12-month project aimed at exploring the key opportunities and challenges facing the geospatial industry over the next five years.

At the heart of the conference is the launch of the AGI Foresight 2030 Project report, which promises to deliver an independent, authoritative summary of the biggest trends and influences shaping the industry. The project has incorporated insights from a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the geospatial community, as well as wider societal, economic, physical, and political factors impacting the sector. The AGI Directors have been instrumental in coordinating this effort, emphasising the conference’s role as a platform for critical reflection and forward planning.

The event’s programme boasts high-profile speakers, including Ed Parsons, Geospatial Technology Advisor and Google’s first-ever Geospatial Technologist. Parsons will deliver a keynote address alongside representatives from globally recognised organisations such as Amazon Web Services, AtkinsRéalis, Idox Geospatial, and 1Spatial. Attendees can expect a rich blend of presentations from leading government officials, international agency representatives, and technology innovators, highlighting a collaborative, inclusive approach to addressing the sector’s future.

Beyond the presentations, the conference will feature an interactive speaking programme, exhibitions, and valuable networking opportunities, fostering an environment for engagement and partnership development within the geospatial community. The AGI is encouraging early booking, noting the event is expected to sell out quickly. Discounts are available for AGI members, students, and early registrants, reflecting its commitment to accessibility and member value.

In addition to the core conference activities, the AGI has actively sought input from the wider geospatial community through a dedicated consultation process, inviting contributions until March 2025. This inclusive approach ensures the Foresight Project captures a diverse range of perspectives, strengthening its relevance and impact on the sector’s future direction.

Furthermore, sponsorship packages for the event are being offered, aimed at organisations wishing to support and align with this forward-looking initiative. The AGI Foresight Conference 2025 stands as a unique occasion for those working in geographic information to engage deeply with the evolving landscape, preparing for the next phase of technological, environmental, and societal change.

As the geospatial sector continues to expand its influence in areas such as smart cities, environmental monitoring, and digital infrastructure, this conference promises to be a key moment for industry executives and decision-makers to connect, learn, and shape the future collectively.
