About the Organisation

Founded in 1948, the Bureau of International Recycling - BIR is the global federation supporting the interests of the recycling industry on an international scale. BIR represents indirectly 30.000 companies in more than 70 countries, and counts over 1000 corporate members from the private sector and 37 national associations. Together, these members form the largest international recycling federation.

About the role

BIR is now looking for a Membership Acquisition & Development Officer to support the growth of its international membership base. As part of the Membership Department, you will play a key role in attracting new companies and federations, managing the full application and onboarding process, and contributing to strategic development initiatives. You will work closely with the Membership Manager and report to the Director General.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, and engage new membership prospects worldwide;
  • Promote BIR’s mission, services, and membership benefits;
  • Manage incoming enquiries and maintain a strong international prospect pipeline;
  • Handle the full application process: verification, follow-up, and administration;
  • Coordinate with the Membership Manager and prepare weekly application files.
  • Support agenda and minutes preparation for bi-annual international conventions;
  • Contribute to the development of BIR’s new membership database and online tools;
  • Produce regular reports on membership acquisition trends.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in membership, business development, and association management;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent command of English; French is desirable, and any additional language is a plus.
  • Experience with CRM systems (iMIS is a plus);
  • Organised, proactive and member-focused;
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural, international environment;
  • Willing to travel (at least twice a year for conventions and occasionally more).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, international relations, marketing, or a related field
