About the role

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) is seeking a skilled and motivated Finance Analyst to join our Finance team and play a vital role in supporting the College’s mission to improve child health. As a Finance Analyst, you will provide robust financial planning, analysis, and reporting to ensure the sustainability and transparency of the College’s finances. Working closely with budget holders and the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager, you will support the production of accurate, timely reports, develop forecasts, and support decision-making across the organisation.

You will also play a critical role in contributing to strengthening internal financial controls, supporting compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and delivering insightful analysis to senior leaders, the Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Support the annual budgeting and regular reforecasting processes, including inputting on the overall plan, liaising with budget managers, and producing reports and templates to support the process.
  • Support budget holders to develop budgets for projects and grant applications, ensuring adherence to both external and internal financial requirements.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Responsible for the production of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Management Accounts and Balance Sheets.
  • Produce monthly capital project spending reports and support the analysis of variances, providing insight to management on performance against budget.
  • Provide data analysis and other financial working papers to support the development of financial models and analysis to support key strategic decisions.
  • Produce and support the preparation of financial reports for the Senior Leadership Team, Board of Trustees, and senior management, ensuring alignment with RCPCH’s goals.

Financial Controls & Compliance:

  • Support the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Undertake key balance sheet reconciliations, liaising with other finance staff to investigate reconciling items as necessary.
  • Prepare payroll allocation adjustments each month in accordance with the payroll calendar, and ensure all allocations are captured before each pay run. Support the monthly payroll reconciliation process to ensure the accuracy of allocations.
  • Support the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager in completing all Charity Commission and Companies House reporting and filing requirements, and any other relevant compliance matters.
  • Support financial contractual compliance, including due diligence review of any proposed contracts, including external donor funding terms and conditions, and propose, develop, and track any necessary budgetary or other financial measures needed to ensure compliance.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including preparing working papers to support key elements of the group's statutory accounts, and liaise with the auditors to ensure prompt completion of audit deliverable requirements.

Cash Flow Management & Treasury:

  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual cash flow reports and budgets, and support the FP&A manager as requested
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis as needed to support ongoing relationships and discussions with banking partners and investment managers, ensuring effective cash management, liquidity planning, and investment

General Finance Support:

  • Undertake regular and consistent monthly business partnering meetings with budget holders, to resolve queries, analyse report variances, and ensure accuracy of planning information.
  • Support the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager in delivering training for non-finance staff, including leading one-to-one training for budget holders.
  • Respond proactively to queries, including supporting other finance staff to develop guidance and procedural documentation.
  • Continuously monitor the various finance inboxes and take proactive action as needed.
  • Support the administration of the finance systems, including adding new users, and liaising with other key team members to create new coding requirements.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in financial planning and analysis roles, ideally within a nonprofit or public sector environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial planning, budgeting, and business partnering.
  • Experience managing financial operations, preferably within a charity or healthcare-focused organization.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Proficiency with financial management software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools, such as Microsoft Power BI similar is essential.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of charity-specific accounting and regulatory requirements, such as SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) for charities, fund and grant accounting.
  • Experience in using Business Central or equivalent ERP/financial systems.
  • Familiarity with the healthcare sector or public health organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; or studying for the ACA, ACCA, or CIMA equivalent professional accounting qualification.
