Is Your Membership Model Future-Fit? Insights from IOP’s Live Review
Membership models are at the heart of how associations deliver value, build community, and support long-term sustainability. Yet many membership structures are inherited from the past and no longer match the needs or expectations of today’s professionals. Recognising this, the Institute of Physics (IOP) set out to review its own membership model—taking a long, honest look at what was working, what wasn’t, and what the future could look like.
In this seminar, Matthew Lovell, IOP’s Member Recruitment, Retention & Operations Manager, will share the inside story of the organisation’s on-going membership review. He will outline what prompted the review, how the process has unfolded so far, and the thinking behind some of the key decisions. This is not a finished project, but an open and evolving journey; filled with learning, reflection, and practical insights that other associations can take away.
