The eighth annual conference hosted by the Omani Society for Human Resources Management in Muscat attracts global experts and leaders to discuss modern leadership and sustainable development.

The eighth annual conference hosted by the Omani Society for Human Resources Management (OSHRM), titled “Leadership in Open Space,” commenced on Monday in Muscat, attracting a diverse array of global experts and influential decision-makers from both within the Sultanate of Oman and beyond. The event spans three days and is held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.

Dr. Ghaleb bin Saif Al Hosani, the Chairman of the OSHRM Board of Directors, articulated the society's ambition to propel the human resources sector forward and underlined its critical role in achieving sustainable institutional success. He remarked that the conference serves as a premier platform for sharing expertise and tackling significant issues that affect organisations and individuals alike. Dr. Al Hosani stated that “leadership in an era of rapid change” is central to the discussions, noting that the traditional boundaries separating markets and cultures are becoming increasingly porous. He echoed the need for a new model of leadership rooted in adaptability and foresight, highlighting that contemporary leadership should be measured not by control but by the ability to empower others and foster diversity within the workplace.

Azzan Al Abdullatif, the Chief Executive Officer of Asset Management at OQ, which serves as the conference's strategic partner, reiterated the company's dedication to bolstering intellectual and developmental initiatives that enrich Oman's workforce capabilities and enhance national competitiveness. His remarks reinforced the collaborative spirit of the conference as a catalyst for change.

One of the notable highlights of the first day was an inspiring speech by Ghanem Al-Muftah from Qatar, who shared his personal journey of resilience and emphasised the transformative power of leadership in overcoming obstacles and initiating change. The keynote address by Professor Costas Markides of the London Business School, titled “The Requirements of New Leadership in the New Normal,” further underscored the urgency to adapt leadership frameworks in response to the rapid shifts in the business landscape.

The discussions continued with a crucial panel titled “Sustainable Leadership: Building Tomorrow’s Legacy Today,” featuring prominent Omani leaders who exchanged insights on the pivotal role of leadership in driving sustainable development across various sectors. The first day concluded with a dynamic sports-themed session, “Champion Mindset: Leadership Lessons from the Field,” showcasing insights from distinguished Omani athletes.

The conference’s agenda covers a broad spectrum of crucial topics, including sustainability economics, corporate social responsibility, psychological safety, and securing healthy work environments. Other focal points include innovations in organisational culture, the economic advantages of diversity and inclusion, private-sector leadership, and agile team development. Additionally, the event will delve into current trends such as mentorship initiatives and modern workforce experiences.

Featuring interactive sessions and specialised workshops, the conference aims to provide innovative solutions and contemporary trends in leadership and talent management. It seeks to redefine modern leadership, moving beyond conventional team oversight to embrace continuous improvement and impact that transcends organisational limits.

As part of the conference, HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said conducted a tour of the accompanying international exhibition, which highlights cutting-edge HR tools and solutions presented by specialised participants. This initiative underscores OSHRM’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to the exchange of ideas and innovative practices in the human resources field in Oman.
