Natural Mineral Waters Europe (NMWE) is the voice of European natural mineral and spring water producers. Through its membership base of twenty-six national associations and individual bottling companies, NMWE represents over 500 producers across Europe.

European natural mineral waters are a flagship for European high-quality produce, providing consumers with healthy and natural hydration. The sector has a long-standing commitment towards source and environment protection with measurable impact on biodiversity. NMWE members are determined to deliver full circularity for all their packaging, both glass and PET.

About the role

NMWE is presently looking for a highly motivated and service-oriented Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA) Manager to join its small and dynamic team in Brussels.

The successful candidate will monitor and advise on EU scientific and regulatory developments of interest to the sector. He/she will assist NMWE in developing industry positions and providing meaningful contributions to relevant EU policy discussions.

He/she will work closely with member associations and industry experts, take ownership of his/her dossiers and work independently when managing projects

He/she will report to the Secretary General.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor EU scientific, policy and regulatory food and environmental developments relevant to the industry, such as hydration and nutrition, water resilience in its widest sense including quality aspects, food contact materials, CSR, biodiversity, health and environmental claims, etc.;
  • Provide regular information and insights to NMWE’s members on those developments via dedicated messaging, workshops, etc. as necessary;
  • Develop industry position papers on technical & regulatory topics affecting the industry, taking into account its diversity;
  • Manage selected NMWE projects in the field of Quality, Safety, Hygiene and Health;
  • Act as staff liaison to the Chairpersons of NMWE’s Quality and Regulatory Committee (QRC) and coordinate the meetings of the Committee (agenda, material, action points).
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant policymakers and stakeholders, including the European Commission services and relevant NGO’s;
  • Represent the association in stakeholder meetings on topics under his/her responsibility including NMWE’s umbrella organisation, FoodDrinkEurope.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

  • Self-starter and independent;
  • Proactive and capable of exercising leadership;
  • Ability to draft analytical reports and policy papers;
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders and present complex issues in a clear and concise manner;
  • Service-oriented;
  • Team player and flexible person;
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Master’s degree in science (e.g. microbiology, chemistry, food technology or other related scientific degree).

Required experience:

  • Minimum five years’ work experience in the field of scientific and/or regulatory;
  • Knowledge of EU structure and decision-making process an advantage.

Required languages:

  • English: native speaker or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of other EU languages an important asset.
