About the Organisation
Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) is a UK-based charity that provides life-changing experiences through horse riding and carriage driving for children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. Established in 1969, the RDA works across the UK through a network of local groups, all run by trained volunteers and professionals.
RDA's mission is to enrich the lives of people with disabilities through horses, helping them achieve greater independence, confidence, and well-being. The organization believes in the power of equestrian activities to improve physical health, boost mental health, and build social connections.
About the role
The finance assistant is part of the Finance and Resources function and reports to the Head of Finance. The role is responsible for ensuring all accounts receivable and payable transactions are processed, recorded, and completed. This is a key role for the Finance function to ensure robust organisational decision-making.
Supporting the Head of Finance to ensure the organisation’s finances are accurate, compliant, and up to date, with responsibility for processing financial transactions. This includes maintaining financial records, preparing reports, ensuring the integrity of the finance system, and managing customer accounts. The role is also responsible for a broad range of financial administrative tasks and works collaboratively with various stakeholders, providing financial support, advice, and solutions.
Responsibilities
Financial:
- Process purchase invoices and expense claims, making payments promptly by agreed payment terms.
- Raise sales invoices, report on outstanding debt, and provide a debt management process.
- Ensure that purchase orders are used by the organisation, goods are received, and balances are periodically reviewed for accuracy.
- Review financial processes to ensure they remain efficient and effective.
- Be the key point of contact for the organisation’s banking relationship, ensuring the authorisation structure is fit for purpose and up to date.
- Undertake reconciliations where required, for example, credit card payments.
- Process petty cash transactions.
- Assist with the organisation’s audit processes.
- Provide support as required for the month-end and annual budget setting processes.
- Provide other ad hoc finance tasks as required.
Administrative:
- Assist with raising and debt management of annual Membership and Insurance, and other relevant charging processes.
- Assist with the Grants to Groups process.
- Banking of cheques and cash, including completion of relevant documentation.
- Support the Compliance Officer with general office management, including monitoring and purchasing of office supplies.
- Ensure that the filing system for all transactions is compliant and efficient.
- Provision of purchase order training for the organisation.
General:
- Undertake other such duties as the line manager shall from time to time determine.
- Flexible in working from other offices in the UK as required for the effective delivery of the role.

- Ensure due consideration is always given to our charitable aims and objectives, and that this is demonstrated in all activities.
- Attend industry events, conferences, and seminars to stay informed on legislative changes.
- Attendance and support for key events; provision of support for event preparation as required.

Skills, Competencies, & Experience
Essential Criteria:
- GCSE Maths with high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrable experience of working to deadlines.
- Knowledge of Sage 50 is a minimum.
- Experience of working in a finance environment, undertaking tasks associated with this role.
- Organised and methodical, with the ability to prioritise tasks.
- Knowledge and experience of MS Office products, including Excel.
- Collaborative approach.
- Great customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Adaptable, with an ability to show initiative.
- Experience working with confidential information and data.
Desirable Criteria:
- Willingness to study for the AAT qualification if required.
- Knowledge and experience of charity accounts.
- Knowledge and experience of the disability or voluntary sector.
- Knowledge and experience of equestrian sport or activity.
