About the role
The Director General will lead the association and represent DOT Europe at the highest levels of EU policymaking. They will set the strategic direction with members, shape and communicate policy priorities, and act as the association’s spokesperson with policymakers, NGOs, media, and partners. This is a high-profile role offering both challenges and opportunities at the heart of Europe’s digital policy debates.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Governance:
- Provide strategic leadership, delivering on the association’s work plan.
- Advise the Board and members on long-term strategy and priorities.
- Oversee governance meetings (Board, General Assembly) and ensure sound financial management.
Representation and External Relations:
- Act as the public face of DOT Europe with policymakers, press, and stakeholders.
- Maintain and grow relationships with EU institutions, international organisations, and partner networks.
- Represent the association at high-level meetings and events.
Association and Team Management:
- Ensure compliance with governance, legal, and financial obligations.
- Hire & manage staff to maintain a motivated, cohesive, and effective team.
- Strengthen member engagement and lead membership development and recruitment.
Policy Development:
- Shape and deliver DOT Europe’s annual work plan in line with policy priorities.
- Advocate on EU policies affecting members, working closely with the policy team.
Skills, Competencies & Experience
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of EU digital and tech policy.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Solid understanding of EU institutions and policymaking processes.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and media relations.
- Strategic thinker with project, budget, and campaign management experience.
- Strong networking skills and established contacts in EU policymaking.
- Ability to lead under pressure, manage competing priorities, and work independently.
- Fluent English; additional EU language(s) an advantage.
Desirable:
- Experience in a membership-based organisation.
- Knowledge of another EU language.
- Sense of humour.
