European Schoolnet is a network of 34 European Ministries of Education, based in Brussels. As a non-profit organization, our goal is to foster innovation in teaching and learning among our key partners Ministries of Education, schools, teachers, researchers, and the private sector.

About the role
Finance Officer plays a critical role in the financial health and efficiency of an organization. This position typically involves responsibility for budgeting, financial reporting, monitoring accounts, and supporting both compliance and audit processes. The role requires a blend of financial expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement of financial systems and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Create projects and budgets in the ERP tool.
- Collect project expenditure forecasts.
- Monitor project expenditures and alert in case of deviations.
- Ensure that purchase orders (project analytical data, cost categories, etc.) correspond to forecasts/budgets.
- Work closely with the project financial reporting team.
- Provide support to operational teams on project budget management.
- Extract and verify ERP data to populate reporting tools.
- Contribute to the annual closing by analyzing project expenses and revenues for the current fiscal year (project cut-offs).
- Serve as a backup to the ERP manager for key users/project managers.
- Monitor and create corporate budget reports.
- Improve and update the files and tools used.
Skills, Competencies & Experience
- Good knowledge of the Belgian accounting system and an interest in cost accounting (projects funded by the European Commission).
- Very good spoken and written English.
- Excellent command of Excel.
- Rigorous, conscientious, precise, autonomous, and proactive.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Previous experience with an ERP tool and familiarity with Belgian VAT are assets.
- An interest in a project environment related to the European Commission, its funding framework, standards, and audits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or financial management.

- The process will be conducted in two stages. The selection interview will be held in French. A technical test in English will be carried out following the interview.
