About the role

We are seeking an experienced Events Officer to lead and support a varied programme of online and in-person events. From parliamentary receptions and award ceremonies to topical webinars, this is a dynamic role working across the organisation. Along with day-to-day event logistics, the post holder will support a grant scheme and events working group. This role would be suitable for someone with proven event management experience, excellent communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail who wishes to apply their experience and skills within a high-profile learned society and registered charity environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading and supporting the delivery of RSB events in collaboration with appropriate activity-specific staff. Lead on event logistics, including creating event timelines, sourcing venues, liaising with sponsors, responding to guest queries, creating promotional copy, and providing on-the-day support.
  • Work with external clients (typically smaller bioscience charities) to support event organisation and delivery. Work with colleagues to manage relationships to ensure outstanding service and repeat business.  
  • Work with colleagues to promote events to RSB members and the public, including managing online content.
  • Promote and administer event grants/awards.
  • Support and contribute to the Events Working Group and ensure events are in line with the RSB's policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the events sponsorship strategy and generate event sponsorship in line with core business objectives.
  • Carry out additional related work as may be required from time to time.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

Experience:

  • End-to-end delivery of events to time and budget
  • Experience of working with volunteers and committees
  • Writing and editing engaging copy

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of event management procedure  
  • Self-organisation and management of several tasks simultaneously
  • Planning clearly and effectively to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Enjoyment and active participation in teamwork
  • Capability to recognise personal strengths and weaknesses
  • A willingness to engage in personal development
  • A commitment to the values and ambitions of the RSB
  • Understanding of basic financial processes

Desirable:

  • Using CRM and CMS platforms
  • Establishing and maintaining a network of contacts
  • Working within a Learned Society or the charitable sector

Required Qualifications

  • A level 6 qualification or relevant professional experience

Conditions of employment

  • You must have the right to work in the UK

  • Home-based
  • Occasional travel to national or international
