BEUC collaborates with other international consumer organizations and stakeholders to strengthen consumer advocacy globally. It is also a key player in building a consumer-friendly digital and sustainable economy in Europe. Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs (BEUC), the European Consumer Organisation, is an umbrella group representing consumer organizations across Europe. Founded in 1962, BEUC promotes and defends European consumers' rights by advocating for policies and legislation that improve consumer protection and well-being.
About the role
BEUC – The European Consumer Organisation – is currently looking for a Digital Policy officer to reinforce its Digital Team in Brussels, Belgium. Reporting directly to the Head of Digital Policy, you will be in charge of coordinating BEUC’s advocacy work on simplification of the EU digital rulebook and supporting team members on specific files.
Responsibilities
- Devising strategies to advance BEUC’s mission;
- Drafting and coordinating the development and promotion of policy documents with BEUC members;
- Creating and cultivating relationships with policymakers, regulators, donors, and external stakeholders such as NGOs, academia, industry, and other potential partners;
- Representing BEUC in meetings, conferences, and other external events;
- Helping other colleagues and teams with questions related to digital rights;
- Working alongside the communications team on event organisation and the public-facing angle of campaigns, including on social media and in the press.
- Supporting the organisation’s fundraising and reporting obligations to donors.
Skills, Competencies & Experience
- Relevant experience of 3+ years on EU digital rights in an environment such as NGO, regulator, EU institution, EU trade association, consultancy, law firm;
- Good working knowledge of how the EU institutions and regulators responsible for enforcing various EU digital rules work;
- Demonstrable interest in and understanding of EU telecoms’ rules would be an asset.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills in English are essential; knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
- Relationship builder able to process information quickly to develop knowledge and narratives supporting BEUC’s mission to advance digital consumer and fundamental rights;
- A highly organised, structured, strategic and independent professional, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously;

Required Qualifications
- An advanced university degree (master’s degree) in Law, EU law, Computer Science, or related fields. A specialisation in digital and/or consumer law would be an advantage.

Interviews
