ABN is the professional body for neurologists in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of people with neurological disorders by advancing the knowledge and practice of neurology in the British Isles. The ABN is a dynamic membership society with over 2000 members, working hard to raise the voice of neurology at a national level.

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised Communications Assistant to support the marketing and communications of the Association of British Neurologists (ABN). This varied and rewarding role is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in communications & marketing within a national medical membership organisation. This role will also involve working on the development and implementation of a new CRM system. The successful candidate will work closely with the Engagement Manager and wider ABN team.

The Communications Assistant supports the Engagement Manager and Website and Finance Officer to deliver effective communications for the ABN to our members and to other external stakeholders during the development and implementation of a new Membership Database and Website.

Responsibilities

Communications Assistant:

  • Support the implementation of the new ABN branding. Work closely with the Comms Team to plan and implement comms strategies in line with the wider ABN strategy.
  • Lead on the design of graphic assets for use by ABN staff, within the ABN Brand guidelines, including but not limited to: website & newsletter graphics, documents and publications, marketing material, annual report, and committee posters
  • Lead on social media accounts, including creating multimedia content from ABN assets and growing audiences on key channels (likely to be LinkedIn and YouTube)
  • Comms admin: keeping track of comms campaign schedule, comms timeline, and comms workflow
  • Draft regular e-newsletters to members & external stakeholders
  • Coordinate, design, and distribute marketing campaign emails for ABN products, events, and individual fundraising
  • Support the Engagement Manager with comms monitoring & evaluation reports
  • Support Website Officer with content development for the new ABN blog & reviewing content on out-of-date web pages
  • Organising, maintaining & backing up library of ABN assets, including publications, photos and archive material from past Annual Meetings
  • Draft marketing copy for documents such as press releases and annual reports
  • Support Website Officer with content migration & user testing
  • Undergo occasional training & CPD in relevant areas

Skills, Competencies & Experience

Essential:

  • Excellent & adaptable written communication
  • Experience in drafting accurate and purposeful copy for marketing and communications materials
  • Good knowledge of social media platforms & strategies
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently within a small agile team
  • Excellent prioritisation skills
  • Experience in creating high-quality design and graphic assets
  • Quick learner with a desire to expand knowledge

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with Canva for creating graphic & design assets
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or other photo editing software
  • Experience with video editing & creation of video clips for social media use
  • Experience and knowledge of project management software, particularly Asana
  • Experience of updating web page content using a Content Management System
  • Knowledge of membership associations or the charity sector
  • Experience of delivering content for and managing organisational social media accounts
  • Experience in writing press releases
  • Interest in health, science, or the medical charity sector
