What’s New, Better & Different?
A new chapter in Tokyo’s urban development begins with the grand opening of TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY!
On March 28, TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY will celebrated its grand opening in Tokyo’s Shinagawa area. Led by JR East, it represents one of the largest integrated station-area development projects in Japan, integrating rail infrastructure with offices, hotels, commercial facilities, and cultural spaces. Designed under the concept of a Global Gateway, TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY is located in the highly accessible Shinagawa area of Tokyo, with convenient connections to Haneda Airport and major bullet train hubs. One year after the initial opening, the city now moves into its full-scale operational phase.
The district is emerging as a major hub for international conferences and corporate events. The TAKANAWA GATEWAY Convention Center, which opened in March 2025, and the JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo, opened in October 2025, serve as the core venues for events in the area. The Convention Center features a hall accommodating approximately 2,000 participants with a pillar-free space of 1,640 square meters, supporting large-scale conferences, exhibitions, and receptions. Looking ahead, the city envisions event programs that extend beyond indoor venues to incorporate plazas, outdoor areas, and surrounding facilities - creating opportunities to utilize the entire district as a flexible, environmentally conscious event setting for global corporate meetings and gatherings.
Environmental sustainability is also a core element of this development. Renewable energy and highly efficient infrastructure are combined throughout the entire city, and efficient energy management aimed at achieving virtually zero CO₂ emissions is realized with one of Japan's largest underground thermal energy storage systems installed beneath THE LINKPILLAR 2. Additionally, multiple power supply systems and external power backups, along with emergency generators, ensure that the city's functions can be maintained during emergencies, even if all sources are interrupted.
A new era of urban greenery and innovation unfolds in Osaka!
GRAND GREEN OSAKA, a large-scale redevelopment project on the north side of JR Osaka Station, has transformed a former freight yard into a lush urban oasis. Designed to blend nature with the city, this revitalized district brings a refreshing balance to Umeda’s bustling skyline. Following its initial opening in September 2024, the South Wing had its grand opening on March 21, 2025, featuring 55 retail shops and restaurants, as well as top-tier convention facilities and hotels - all within one compact, event-ready location.
On the fourth floor of the South Wing is Congrès Square Grand Green Osaka, a versatile event space featuring a variety of halls and conference rooms. Its Grand Hall spans 740 ㎡ with a ceiling height of 7 meters and can be divided into two or three sections for flexible use. The Park Hall, at 435㎡ with a 5-meter ceiling, offers a slightly smaller yet equally adaptable option, while the venue also includes 12 meeting rooms and a spacious foyer to accommodate different event needs and styles.
