Talk

What happens when you give people a simple, protected space to talk—without judgement, hierarchy, or performance?

AfPP’s Big Perioperative Natter pilot set out to explore exactly that. Through anonymous, time-limited conversations, operating theatre practitioners were able to step away from the pressures of their roles and speak openly about their real experiences, challenges, and priorities. By removing barriers such as hierarchy and expectation, these conversations created a level of honesty and depth that is often difficult to achieve in more formal settings.

In this session, Katie Elvin from the AfPP will share how the pilot was designed, the key questions that guided the conversations, and the insights practitioners were willing to share when given a safe space to do so. Most importantly, she will highlight what AfPP has learned—and how those insights have already started to shape changes within the organisation, influencing how it supports, engages, and represents its members going forward.
