Job description

The British Medical Association is the professional association and trade union for doctors and medical students in the UK. It has a prominent and influential position at the very heart of current debate over the future of healthcare provision.

A full-time permanent opportunity has arisen to lead an expert team in BMA Northern Ireland, responsible for providing comprehensive employment law, employee relations advice and support to doctors on complex matters affecting their working lives.

The postholder will build key relationships with doctors and health and social care employers across Northern Ireland, overseeing individual advice and local negotiation services on behalf of members. The Head of Member Relations will be in regular contact with senior decision makers within health and social care trusts, Northern Ireland Department of Health and agencies within the Northern Ireland health and social care structures.

Candidates for this post must have an established track record in human resources, industrial relations, or employment law and significant senior experience of partnership working, stakeholder management and the ability to build productive relationships.

The postholder will have advanced negotiation skills and the ability to influence individuals using tact, expertise and diplomacy. Knowledge of the political and healthcare landscape in Northern Ireland will be an advantage as is experience of leading a team and overseeing high quality service provision.
