About the role

The Digital Health and AI Lead will lead and strengthen ESC regulatory initiatives in digital health and AI, contributing to EU guidance aimed at ensuring the safe and effective adoption of AI in cardiovascular care, while reinforcing ESC's position as the leading medical society in this field.

Responsibilities

Monitor and assess EU regulatory developments on AI and digital health in order to inform and shape ESC public affairs actions in these domains:

  • Track EU legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives on AI and digital health.
  • Analyse implications for cardiovascular medicine and ESC strategic priorities.
  • Produce timely briefings, alerts, and strategic insights for internal stakeholders, including ESC leadership.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities for ESC engagement with regulatory & legislative bodies.
  • Coordinate intelligence‑gathering across ESC committees, experts, and networks.

Lead the development of coherent, evidence‑based ESC regulatory positions and recommendations in order to inform EU policymaking and enable the safe and effective use of AI in cardiovascular medicine:

  • Draft regulatory position papers, recommendations, and responses to EU consultations.
  • Coordinate expert input from ESC associations, councils, and working groups.
  • Ensure alignment between scientific evidence, clinical practice needs, and ESC advocacy goals.
  • Develop and deliver clear policy messages tailored to EU decision‑makers.
  • Prepare supporting material (evidence summaries, impact assessments, issue papers).

Represent and advance ESC recommendations in the EU policy arena in order to ensure their influence on AI‑related decision‑making and advance ESC leadership in the field:

  • Engage with EU institutions, agencies, and relevant stakeholder coalitions on AI and digital health.
  • Advocate ESC positions in meetings, events, consultations, and public affairs activities.
  • Maintain and strengthen strategic relationships with policymakers and other stakeholders.
  • Support ESC leadership and experts in high‑level policy engagements.
  • Ensure consistent visibility of ESC messages across EU forums, partnerships, and initiatives.
  • Support ESC participation in collaborative European initiatives and coordinate internal expert contributions.

Engage with ESC multi-stakeholder groups to position the ESC as a leading organisation in the field, raise topic awareness, knowledge & policy engagement:

  • Act in a consultative manner for ESC in multi-stakeholder groups, including relevant EU-funded projects, forums with industry partners & internal committee groups.
  • Identify and build ESC Alliances with other key actors in the field of digital health and AI developments in order to build a strong common voice around digital health and AI regulation for CV medicine.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

  • 5 - 7 years of experience working in EU regulatory affairs policy development, of which 4 - 5 years of experience is in EU digital technology, digital health, and AI/data policy.
  • Strong knowledge of EU policymaking and solid familiarity with EU frameworks on data, digital health, and AI.
  • Good understanding of digital (health) technologies, AI systems, and key concepts related to their development (and, ideally, to their clinical use).
  • Excellent policy‑analysis and drafting skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, actionable positions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in EU Affairs, Law, and a related discipline, and scientific, digital, and AI fields.
