About the Organisation

International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) represents over 95 Member Associations worldwide. Our members are a large group of persons with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) and their families. In collaboration with civic society in the public and private sectors, and together with important stakeholders, IF works to build inclusive communities and raise awareness of SBH. To reduce the prevalence of SBH in the world through primary prevention, advance the rights of persons with disabilities, and improve management and care for individuals with SBH and their families.

About the role

We are seeking a creative, motivated, and strategic Communications Manager to join our international team and lead IF’s communications and community engagement efforts. As Communications Manager, you will play a central role in shaping how IF connects with its global community, members, partners, and the public.

You will manage our digital presence, ensure consistent and engaging communication across all channels, and help translate IF’s advocacy and policy messages into powerful and accessible content. You will also serve as the first point of contact for community enquiries, managing IF’s information email account, and ensuring timely, supportive responses.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communication: Develop and implement quarterly communication strategies that align with the project’s overall objectives and IF’s broader strategic goals.
  • Community Engagement: Monitor and respond to incoming emails via IF’s main information account, ensuring clear and supportive communication with members and partners.
  • Content Creation & Campaigns: Translate complex policy and project outcomes into clear, engaging social media content, newsletters, and website articles; Lead communication efforts for awareness-raising campaigns and international days, such as World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day; Develop and disseminate communication toolkits, key messages, and visuals to support IF members and partners in coordinated advocacy.
  • Social Media & Web Management: Maintain and update IF’s website with new articles, project updates, and member stories; Manage IF’s social media channels and foster strong engagement with our global community. Use Canva and other tools to create high-quality visuals for digital campaigns and publications.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and interpret quarterly analytics from social media and the website; prepare reports and propose data-driven communication strategies.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with the Secretary General and the project team to ensure coherent communication across all activities and platforms.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal); other languages are an asset.
  • Proven experience in managing digital communications, including social media and websites.
  • Ability to work with Google, Canva, WordPress and familiarity with content management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and present digital performance data.
  • Knowledgeable in disability rights–based language and inclusive communication practices.
  • Experience translating complex information into clear, engaging messages.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of IF and an understanding of disability inclusion.
