In 1993, he was appointed as the first Honorary Consul-General of Bangladesh in Scotland and in 1995 he was made a Member of the British Empire,In 2000 he was awarded a Doctorate in Business Administration (Honouris Causa) by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. 2007 saw Heriot-watt University Doctor of Letters, D.Litt., and Edinburgh’s Napier University award him Doctor of the University, D.University. Chairman of the Commonwealth Society of Edinburgh and the BanglaScot Foundation. He is a Director of the Edinburgh Mela, the vibrant festival founded by Edinburgh’s South Asian communities, and the EdinburghBangladesh Samity.

Jayr Bass is the Executive Director of AOSpine International, a clinical division of the AO Foundation and international community of spine surgeons generating, disseminating and exchanging knowledge to advance spine care worldwide. AOSpine is headquartered in Davos and Dübendorf, with regional office in Latin America, Asia Pacific and North America. He was previously the Regional Director of EMEA and International Congress Manager of AOSpine.
Prior to joining AOSpine, Jayr worked in Produce Marketing and Development in the area of spine surgery with a multinational med-tech company. Jayr has a degree in business administration and economics of the University of Basel.

Rules of judging

  1. Judges only judge some of the categories and never a category where their organisation, or a colleague or a project from their association has been nominated
  2. The judging is completed remotely and independently of each other, with each judge rating each section of the nominations
  3. Each section of the nomination entry is given a weighting percentage
  4. Should an entry recevive the same rating as another, another judge will be invited to decide which entry is the best, to establish the winner
