Award categories for the Africa Association Awards 2020.
Now is the time to focus on the talent that associations consist of, both executive and voluntary. Associations have the ability to lead and develop all sectors and industries and the passion and dedication that associations and their employees put into their work is clear. This should be recognised widely.
1. Association Leader of the Year
This category recognises leadership, expertise and innovation at the most senior level. The nominee should have obtained outstanding achievements while demonstrating the qualities of a true leader, a visionary, an innovator and with know-how in the sector. Nominees should illustrate excellence in leadership and innovation in their contribution to the organisation and the sector. This nomination is open to: Executive Directors, Secretaries General, Managing Directors, Chief Executive Officers, All Executive Heads, where the nominee has held the position for at least two years.
2. Association Executive of the Year
This category recognises an association employee or volunteer executive in their specific role, who has held their position for at least two years. The nominee should have attained success in their field of expertise and be a strategic manager who has made a substantial impact and/or brought substantial contribution to the association.
3. Effective Voice of the Year
This category recognises the advancement of a cause or a sector with a campaign primarily planned and implemented in the last 14 months. This could include lobbying for legislation change, a publicity campaign, an industry / sector day and any other types of campaign excluding social media campaigns and member recruitment or engagement initiatives, which have their own category. Campaign elements include communications to lawmakers, press releases, press releases, campaign specific micro-sites, blogs and web pages, any platforms, tools, printed materials, and activities for raising awareness and engagement and for achieving the goals and objectives of the campaign. Measurable achievements include evidence of legislative action / support / change, quantity, quality and reach of media coverage, statistics for online and offline engagement, impressions, page views, shares, mentions and any data related to the advancement of a cause or sector, measured against stated goals.
4. Best Physical Event
This category is for a NEW or substantially developed EXISTING conference or event and has taken place in the last 14 months. It includes a conference, congress, convention, exhibition, seminar series, awards, roadshow, careers show or other event. Measurable achievements include statistics such as number of attendees, exhibitors, sponsors; revenue, education evaluations, attendee engagement via the mobile app and on social media platforms, net promoter score, etc. measured against stated goals.
5. Best Online Event
This category is for either a NEW online event or the substantial development of an EXISTING online event. It is open to online online whether only online or as the online part of a hybrid conference. For hybrid events, you must restrict your submission content to the service provided online. The conference must have taken place in the last 14 months. Events include conferences, congresses and conventions but not webinars or online training. Elements considered in judging may include but is not limited to: functionality created online, quality of user interface, well programmed content, promotion of exhibitors and sponsors, preparation for on-demand content provision. Measurable achievements include number of attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, revenue, education evaluations, net promoter score, etc. measured against stated goals and previous editions where applicable.
6. Best Member Support during Covid19
This category is for an association’s initiative to support its members during the Covid19 crisis. Elements considered in judging may include but is not limited to: toolkits and packs, micro-sites, guides, training initiatives, digital publications, and any other online and offline material and tools. Measurable achievements include statistics such as member engagement, feedback surveys, purchases, subscriptions, referrals, shares etc. including how they measured against stated goals. This category is not open to member recruitment or engagement initiatives, which have their own category.
7. Best Professional Development Offering
This category is for a NEW or substantially developed EXISTING professional development offering, developed, or launched in the last 14 months. It includes certificate programmes, training or other professional development activity, including online education. Measurable achievements include statistics such as number of participants or users, login frequency / number of sessions, session duration, engagement, take-up %, revenue from sales, education levels, referrals and scores, etc. measured against stated goals.
8. Best Association Website
This category is for a NEW or substantially developed EXISTING website, in the last 24 months. Measurable achievements include statistics such as: site analytics, logins, users returning, number and length of sessions, user interactions, responses to a call to action, user experience evaluations, personalisation, optimisation, integration with other systems measured against stated goals.
9. Best Social Media Campaign
This category recognises a successfully planned and implemented distinct social media campaign primarily planned and implemented in the last 14 months. The campaign may include social media platforms, campaign specific web pages, micro-sites or blogs and any social media tools and platforms used for engagement, raising awareness or for achieving the goals and objectives of the campaign. Measurable achievements include statistics such as mentions, retweets, shares, likes, reach, impressions, page views, comments, calls to action, purchases, sales volumes, subscriptions and any other data related to increased awareness of an issue or take up of a service, event or product, measured against stated goals. This category is not open to member recruitment or member engagement campaigns, which have their own categories.
10. Best Association of the Year
This category is for individual and business membership organisations or chapters, including professional bodies and trade associations, for its successful achievements in the last 14 months. Measurable achievements include and are not limited to notable and successful projects such as events, campaigns and development of services and products; income generation; membership growth, retention, engagement and satisfaction; leadership within the association; contribution to the advancement and success of the organisation and sector.
